ALM Photo: War Paint Academy Wedding Workshop | Hair, Makeup and Wedding Dresses!

Last month Allan and I headed out to Castleton Farms in Loudon, Tennessee to assist with Christian McNally's War Paint Academy Wedding Workshop. Christian wanted the makeup artists, hair stylists and models to have amazing photographs of the finished 'looks' for their portfolios and for critiques. We had a blast working with everyone! There were quite a few models and each was styled into two looks, most with wedding dresses, some with casual wear and all with stunning makeup and hair.

If you have never had the occasion to visit Castleton Farms, it is a gorgeous wedding and event venue nestled between deep green forests and secluded behind a huge gate well off the beaten path. Around the property there are several vignettes for holding events and weddings from intimate to large, indoor and outdoor, but all beautifully appointed and perfectly manicured.

The War Paint Academy workshop was held in the barn, which is a stately building fitted with fabulous amenities, including a men's lounge for groom and his groomsmen to hang out in before his wedding. We photographed the models in and around the barn so we could be sure to capture images of each and every one without a lot of trekking around. The light coming in the end of the bar through the giant doors was, in a word, amazing. And the lightly dappled shade under the gazebo beyond the barn was fabulous too. Some photographers find it extremely challenging to work with changing and/or natural light, but we embrace it. We had reflectors on hand and would have loved to have brought some lights, but time was a constraint, and to be honest, many of the images look as though we did use lights.
