Flawless Wedding Looks | War Paint Academy at Crescent Bend

Gorgeous models. Beautiful wedding gowns. Flawless makeup. Stunning hair. Amazing venue.

On a beautiful afternoon in May, Allan and I loaded up the photography gear and headed over to Crescent Bend Home and Gardens to photograph the models students from War Paint Academy were styling. There brides and bridesmaids galore as the models had their hair and makeup done by these talented students.

We had a blast wandering around Crescent Bend, finding unique settings and perfect light. Judy MacMillan runs the venue is an absolute delight to work with. We love spending time with her! If you are a bride looking for a wedding venue, please consider Crescent Bend. It is so beautiful and right on the river.

Crescent Bend | Derby Day 2014

For the third year in a row, ALM Photo captured the fun and excitement of Derby Day at Crescent Bend, a gorgeous property on the river just west of Downtown Knoxville. A full day of exciting events, including an auction, river boat ride, horse show and race betting; take place around the running of the Kentucky Derby. Thankfully the rain stayed away this year, and Allan captured everyone arriving on the red carpet. This is a fun event for us to photograph because we are encouraged to enjoy ourselves and enjoy the delicious buffet, taste tempting desserts like horse-churned ice cream and Derby pie, as well as traditional Derby Day drinks. I still don't like a Mint Julep, but this year I tried Kentucky Ale and it was tasty.

Oh, and you can't forget the fashion! Everyone is decked out in their finest Kentucky Derby garb for this party and there is a ladies hat contest and best-dressed man contest as well.

A Taste of Crescent Bend | Vendor Event | March 23, 2014

Gorgeous views. Spectacular grounds. Beautiful building.

Crescent Bend House and Gardens is a historical property located on Kingston Pike in Knoxville, Tennessee that is now a fabulous wedding and event venue. It's history is fascinating and can be found here. Allan and I have had the pleasure of photographing Crescent Bend's Derby Day event for the last few years and we will be back again this year on May 3rd. We've also been invited to participate in 'A Taste of Crescent Bend' event featuring vendors such as photographers, videographers, tuxedo rental, entertainment bookers, florists, officiants, local hotels and caterers. Mast General Store was there with a candy display too! Who doesn't love a "candy bar" at a wedding? Couples who have booked the venue for their nuptials are invited to meet the vendors and ask questions to help make some of the most important decisions for their special day. It's the perfect opportunity for them to 'sample' the people offering their services as well as the food. And yes, there was cake!

We enjoyed being a part of this event that featured lively music from Ogle Entertainment, stunning floral decorations by Always in Bloom {the peachy orange and violet combination was gorgeous!}, delicious food by All Occasion Catering and wine from Corks Wine and Spirits. {Side note: I'm not much a wine drinker but the Moscato they were serving as divine!}

One of our favorite parts of the event is seeing our fellow photographers and getting to catch up with them in a relaxing environment. It's always fun to see Joe and Kathleen Atkins of JoPhoto, one of the few husband and wife photography teams in Knoxville besides Allan and I. Meeting Ben Moser of Knox Wedding Creative in person was a highlight of the day, as was chatting with Bill Waldorf of Waldorf Photographic Art. Bill's an inspiration and an appreciator of art. And I'm not just saying that because he commissioned me to create a fused glass bowl for his wife.
